Steven Devaney

Steven joined CBRE in August 2022 after working for 15 years as an academic in UK higher education. He has undertaken extensive research on the UK and global real estate investment market, specialising in the liquidity, pricing and investment performance of private real estate assets.

At CBRE, Steven is responsible for regular publications and thought leadership related to UK property investment performance, debt finance and capital flows. This includes oversight of CBRE asset-based investment indices such as the CBRE UK monthly index, UK long income index and PBSA index.

Steven was Associate Professor at the University of Reading and, before this, Lecturer in Real Estate at the University of Aberdeen. While in academia, he took part in industry facing projects for the Investment Property Forum (liquidity, depreciation, valuations for lending), RICS Research Trust (property development), EPRA (indices) and UNEP FI (climate risk), among others.

He joined academia after having worked at Investment Property Databank (IPD). As a consultant to IPD (now MSCI), he was involved in development of Transaction-Linked Indices that complement their suite of regular valuation-based performance series.
